    Clare Garvey

    Editor Genome Biology,
Associate Publisher – open data projects BioMed Central, UK

Dr. Clare Garvey joined the Genome Biology editorial team at BioMed Central in 2007 after working as an Assistant Editor at Nature Publishing Group. At BioMed Central, Clare and her team manages the peer-review of submitted manuscripts in addition to commissioning Special Issues, Reviews and other interesting articles for publication. Genome Biology has an Impact Factor of 10.3 and is currently ranked 4th out of 159 journals in the field of Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology, and 9th out of 161 journals in the field of Genetics and Heredity.

Recently, Clare has expanded her role into the publishing arena; specifically into the field of open data. This is a fast moving field that faces many challenges associated with ensuring that all data that is available with a manuscript is accessible and in a form that can be reused. This work in addition to her role on Genome Biology sees Clare involved in developing criteria and standards for publishing, in collaboration with other publishers, in some instances, as well as selecting the best genomics manuscripts for publication in one of BioMed Centrals flagship journals. Dr Garvey's background is Drosophila developmental genetics.

Before moving into publishing, Clare completed a PhD jointly between the Natural History Museum and Queen Mary University in London and subsequently undertook two postdocs in Cambridge, UK on Drosophila developmental genetics.
